Five Top Tips for Tenants on Moving Day

Moving into a new property is exciting — but let’s be honest, it can also be a bit overwhelming. To help make things as smooth as possible, here are our five top tips to get your tenancy off to a great start.

1. Do a Walkthrough First

Before you unpack a single box, take some time to walk through the property. Make sure everything is as expected and matches the inventory report. If you spot anything out of place, take photos and let your property manager know right away.

2. Take Meter Readings

This is a step many tenants forget! On the day you move in, take clear photos of the gas, electricity, and water meter readings. This ensures your first bills are accurate and you’re not paying for someone else’s usage.

3. Set Up Your Utilities and Internet

Get ahead by arranging your utilities and broadband in advance where possible. If you’re not sure who the current suppliers are, just ask — we’re happy to help.

4. Plan Your Furniture Layout

Moving day is the perfect time to decide where things will go. If your furniture is being delivered, sketch out a basic plan to avoid heavy lifting later. Check any restrictions on hanging items or assembling large pieces.

5. Keep Key Documents Handy

Have a folder ready with your tenancy agreement, inventory, and contact numbers for your property manager. It’ll save you rummaging through boxes if you need anything quickly.

Moving into a new home should be exciting — and with a little preparation, it can be stress-free too.
